How much we can help someone without motivation?
After trying my darndest, and pulling out all sorts of fancy techniques, I have concluded that there is a base level of motivation that the client must have, or there is nothing that can be done. The clients that think that they can simply pay me and have me make the changes for them magically are the ones who are unlikely to get what they want. As we know, I can't "fix" them.
This is especially true for behavior change. In my area of weight issues, while the resulting lifestyle will be pretty easy for them, the change itself will take some effort (Patience, Practice - as in daily practices, and Persistence).
I suggest that you be up front with your clients and suggest that if they want to experience hypnosis, that you take them through some relaxation trances. These will be enjoyable for them and create a positive association. Then, when they are ready, you can do the work.

I found your post through Life of Brian, and just had to respond:
Motivation is many-sided. Very often, if people can't be motivated, this is a result of some form of depression.
Getting those people to take a high-quality vitamin and mineral supplement will often help (as will traditional anti-depressants, of course.)
Thanks for the reminder about good nutrition. I'm not a big fan of anti-depressants, but acknowledge that sometimes when the only motivation someone has is just enough to take a pill, then pills can be a way to start.
